Hey guys it’s Devyn! People often ask me what type or brand of guitar they need in order to start playing the guitar. This post will be addressing that question, telling you a little about my personal story of which guitar I started with, and what I believe is a good guitar you should start with.
When I was 13 years old I took 100 dollars of my birthday money and spent it on a guitar. The brand of that guitar was called Fender. For the most part, that guitar was the base for me learning how to play. It did everything any other guitar could do, it just costed a lot less. While most people would recommend buying a more expensive brand such as Taylor or Martin, I would recommend buying a guitar you can afford. Especially starting out, something you can afford is a smarter option than spending all your money on something you may not even like to do in the future. As my career in music furthered, I bought other brands of guitars such as Yamaha and Taylor. While I do love these guitars, they are pretty expensive. Some ranging close to 2,000 dollars!
Overall, if you are wanting to learn how to play, buy a guitar that is AFFORDABLE first. Then, if you progress in your playing, go ahead and upgrade to a more quality type of guitar. I see this scenario as I do with cars, if the car gets you to where you need to be, then it’s good. The same analogy with guitars. If the guitar allows you to play well and sound good, then it’s good. It does not have to be a thousand dollar guitar to sound good.
