3 Beginner Questions About Playing Guitar

Hey guys, I hope everyone is having a great Friday so far! Today I am going to be addressing numerous questions I have received form beginner guitar players! Hopefully these will be beneficial for the people who have asked them and to the people who are just reading this.

1.)       How often should I practice playing?

First and foremost, this is the number one question I have received in my time of instructing people how to play the guitar, and honestly, it is probably one of the most important. The answer to this question depends on how bad you are actually wanting to learn. For me, I wanted to learn quickly and efficiently. On average, I would say I practiced around an hour a day. But, if you are wanting to speed through the process faster than I did, the more the merrier! I would say 2 hours a day is a good amount of practice. However, one tip I can give is that if you are going on 2-3 hours of practice and things get frustrating, take a break. Breaks are key when learning how to play an instrument… TRUST ME.

2.)       Should I take a break if my finger tips start to hurt?

This is a very big deal when it comes to playing the guitar… the answer is NO. Do not quit playing and practicing if your finger tips start to hurt. This is actually a good sign when learning how to play the guitar! The more you practice and play, the more calluses you will build on your finger tips. This is good because in order to push down the strings onto the fret board of the guitar, you need calluses. These calluses hold the string in place and ultimately make playing more painless.

3.)       Why do my strings make a “thump” sound when I try and play them?

The strings probably do this for one of two reasons. First, you may not have calluses built on the finger that is pressing down on that string. If you do not have calluses, often times the string will not press down hard enough on the neck of the guitar and it will cause a mute sound. The second possible reason is that your finger is placed incorrectly on that certain string. If it is placed incorrectly, sometimes the string will not make a sound at all! Try placing your finger on that string a different way and MAKE SURE that the only part pushing on the string is your finger tip!

The Easiest Way To Learn The Guitar

I oftentimes get asked the question, “What is the easiest way to learn how to play the guitar?” From experience, the easiest way to learn how to play the guitar is based off of personal preference! Some people want a physical instructor, some people want to teach themselves, and some people want a course to watch over and over! Well which one is more beneficial?

One popular way people want to learn how to play the guitar is from hiring a physical tutor or instructor to teach them face to face. While this may be beneficial because it is hands on learning, it oftentimes is very costly and you only have a limited number of time with the tutor at one session!

A second popular way to learn how to play guitar is by trying to teach yourself. This is the path I took when I started to learn the guitar and let me tell you… DO NOT DO IT. While I was teaching myself, my stress levels were maxed out because I was having to learn all new information at once. While this way is beneficial because you control what you wanna learn and when you wanna learn it, it can get you messed up in the whole process of learning the guitar!

The third and most beneficial way (in my opinion) of learning how to play the guitar is buying a course for a set price. When you buy a video course, you are entitled to be able to watch that course AS MANY TIMES as you want! This is beneficial because if you do not get something, you can just rewind the video and replay it! This is why I have created Conquering Guitar. I believe that an online video course with personal 1 on 1 video tutoring would be the most beneficial way to excel on learning to play the guitar!

3 Things You Need To Learn The Guitar!

Hey everyone, hope all is doing well. Today I am going to be giving you guys three things/characteristics that you need to learn the guitar! These three things are commonly found in all musicians and are prevalent in guitar players! The three characteristics are: Patience, Persistency, and Positivity.

First, if you wanna learn the guitar, you need to be PATIENT. Most people who want to learn the guitar think they can do it in a short period of time… well I am going to hurt your feelings here for a second because it is IMPOSSIBLE to learn the guitar in a very short period of time. It took me around 6 months to a year to learn just the basics. Also, one part that comes with learning to play the guitar is building calluses on your finger tips. This takes time and ultimately takes patience.

Second, you need persistency. If you want to actually learn the guitar you have to have persistency. For me, I almost quit, but I ended up sticking it out because I was persistent. Listen, learning to play the guitar is HARD, really hard. In order for you to overcome the struggles of playing this instrument you need to have persistency when it gets hard and you can’t give up, no matter how hard it gets.

Third, you need to have positivity. When all is failing and you feel like you are not getting anywhere, you need to be positive and remember that in the end, the hard work will pay off. I come from experience, learning to play the guitar has opened so many doors for me, it is worth the struggles. In the end, positivity will push you through those struggles of learning the guitar.

Overall, in order for you to push through the struggles of learning the guitar, you HAVE TO HAVE these three things: Patience, Persistency, and Positivity. If you have these characteristics, I am confident you will learn to play the guitar. If you are interested in other information or even FREE GUITAR LESSONS, subscribe to the community today! Guitar Chords For Beginners!

As many of you already know, guitar chords play a very important role when it comes to playing the guitar. In fact, I would say learning and knowing all of the guitar chords is the most important thing to know! Guitar chords are what produce the sound when playing the guitar. There are many guitar chords out there, but I am going to give you a few that I would prefer learning as a beginner!

Personally, when I began teaching myself the guitar, I learned 4 basic chords. Those chords were the C chord, G chord, Em chord, and D chord. Now, these may not be the most basic chords to play, but I found that they are one of the most influencing chords in music, meaning they show up a lot more in songs than other chords in my opinion. In fact, most of the songs I learned when I started to play had these four chords in it. If you want to start from somewhere and you do not know how to play the guitar, I would recommend learning these four chords initially. If your interested in learning them, sign up for your FREE guitar lessons today on this website and I will teach you how to play them!

First, I started this website in hopes that I can be a helpful source to ALL beginners that wanna learn how to play the guitar. Recently I received a message that questioned If I (Devyn) have honestly conquered the guitar… and I thought to myself, have I? Then I thought to myself the reason I named the website Conquering Guitar. The word conquering as used in this website means to take hold or overcome something!

What I have found throughout my experience with learning the guitar was that the biggest obstacles came first with learning to play the guitar! The BASICS of playing the guitar was the hardest part to learn! So, answering the question I DO believe I have conquered (in my scenario) the guitar, and I believe you can too! If you want to conquer and overcome the adversity that the guitar has given you, join the community today and I would love to help you!

Playing Takes Persistence!

One of the things I struggled most with when it came to learning the guitar was persistency. In the beginning, I would always play for a day or two days straight and then I would quit for like two or three days. Now looking back at my time, I have found that the more persistent I was, the more I grew at learning how to play the guitar.

Just like sports, playing an instrument takes A LOT of practice. Whether it be playing drums or playing guitar, it all takes practice and time to learn. Honestly, we are talking up to a year or more to truly conquer it. However, with persistency, you may be able to learn the guitar quicker! With the 5 step course I have created on this website, I have confidence that you can truly conquer the guitar faster and easier than ever before! Welcome to the basics of learning the guitar and welcome to the family!

Learning The Guitar: Time and Money

As I began wanting to learn how to play the guitar, I proceeded to spend valuable time and money from buying lessons, only to find out it was not worth it. Local instructors and online instructors did not get what it was like to start playing from nothing. They went to fast and it costed TOO MUCH. By the third week of an online lesson I made the smart decision and backed out it. It was not worth the time and money!

Now here me out, learning to play the guitar WILL cost you time and money. It is just how smart you are on what you spend the money on and where you will spend the time. This is why it is so crucial to find a guitar lesson course that is WORTH your time and money! Ultimately, time and money is why I have created Conquering The Guitar. The 5 step course gives the most simple and easy to follow instructions for an AFFORDABLE cost. When I was learning to play, I wish I would have had this website to learn form!

Learning To Play The Guitar Is HARD!

Out of all the trials and experiences in my life, learning to play the guitar has absolutely been the hardest! I started to teach myself how to play the guitar around 13 years old. As you may have read before, I spent my birthday money on a guitar and then proceeded to find free guitar lessons. When the free guitar lessons got me NOWHERE, I decided to decipher the guitar myself.

After about 6 months of teaching myself, I gave up; however, I quickly realized I had made the wrong decision and decided to go back to learning how to play the guitar. When I did, I jumped all in head first. I spent countless hours EVERY day learning how to play. Around the 1 year mark is when the basics began to click… but just like everything, the basics is not nearly all there is to playing the guitar. When all was said and done it took me almost 3 years to fully learn how to play.

This is why I have created this course: to simplify the struggles I had so others may benefit from it, and to help others learn the guitar FASTER and EASIER than I did. Finally, to all beginners learning how to play the guitar, persistence and practice are vital to your success. So when you are on the verge of quitting, DO NOT GIVE UP!

Tuning Your Guitar

The basic point of playing the guitar is to provide a beautiful and elegant sound for listeners or for yourself; but what about when your guitar is not sounding the best? Well, the main source of that problem may be that your strings are not tuned correctly or are out of tune! In order to fix this you will need to acquire a guitar tuner. You can usually find these devices at local music stores or the internet. I would not recommend trying to tune it by ear because even if it sounds better, it may not be in tune all the way.

In order to tune the guitar, you need a tuner, but you also need to know what string goes with each tune. For example, the top string of the guitar is normally tuned in a E key. So if you have a tuner, you need to tighten or loosen the string until the digital display shows that the top string is playing an E! If you would like to know more about tuning or anything about the guitar, feel free to join the community! Have a great day!

How Many Guitar Chords Are There?

When I first started playing the guitar, I only learned 4 chords; the G chord, C chord, D chord, and Em chord. These 4 chords were what I thought to be the only 4 chords in playing the guitar, but I quickly found out that there were more. Chords are what make up playing the guitar and are probably one of the most important elements that comes with learning to play. If you learn every chord, you are honestly already 50 percent there! With that being said, how many chords are there?

The “Guitar Alphabet” that I think of is made up of LOTS of chords ranging from A to G. In my world of playing the guitar and making everything more simple, it is made up of a total of 7 main chords and their minor partners. For example, for every A chord there is an A minor chord, for every B chord there is a B minor chord, etc. So if you total that up, it ends up to be around 14 chords. Now, there are other chords, but for beginners, if you can master these 14 chords, you are well on your way to truly conquering the guitar!
